Be Kind

As it’s the week leading up to Christmas and almost the end of the year, I’ve been reflecting a bit on how this year has been for me and my family as well as just observing the world around us.  I have to say, I think this message is for every single person, at least in the USA.

We need to be more kind to one another and to ourselves.

This world is so full of opportunities, we can literally be anything we want to be.  But if we aren’t kind, what’s the point?

I work with people every single day, and I’m fortunate to live in a place where kindness is seen daily.  I’m thankful for that, because it’s taught me how to treat people as well.

When I work with or encounter someone who isn’t kind for whatever reason (believe me, it happens) I have the attitude to “kill them with kindness.”  For me, that means I smile, I listen, I empathize and try to solve whatever issue they are having.  Sometimes it’s simple… sometimes it’s not.  But either way, I want to be that person that was kind in their day, even if it’s just because I tried to help.

In today’s world it might seem like we are all moving too fast, and I see that daily as well.  People bustling around so fast sometimes it’s like they aren’t even paying attention to that cashier at the store or the person on the other end of the phone.  But I truly believe a bit of kindness in your voice, a friendly smile and a thank-you can do wonders for this world.

I mean, if you’re treated kindly, aren’t you more likely to pass that kindness on to the next person you meet?  I know I am!  And if that kindness continues to spread, the whole world could soon be a much nicer place.

So if you’re having a good day, PLEASE spread that good feeling to the next person you see or speak to.  If you’re not… I hope someone smiles at you and  holds the door.  I hope you say thank you and smile back.  Simple kindnesses that can truly go a long way to make someone’s day a little brighter.

As we go about the busyness of the season, take that moment to be kind.  Today and every day.

I mean, if a reality TV star can be elected president…. we can be kind, right?  It’s really not nearly as much of a stretch, at least in my opinion!!

If you celebrate Christmas like I do, I wish you a very Merry Christmas.  If you don’t celebrate that tradition… I wish you Merry Christmas anyway because the spirit of the holiday is good cheer and kindness and love… and I wish that to every human on the planet!
